Man (20s) arrested in relation to vandalism of George bar after CCTV examined

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the vandalism of the George nightclub.

The popular gay nightclub was vandalised with homophobic statements and Nazi swatiskas at 5:30am yesterday morning before being removed by management hours later.

Gardaí have confirmed to independent.ie that a man has been arrested in connection to this incident.

CCTV from the area has been examined.

The man is currently being detained at Pearse Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Under the act, the man can be detained for up to 24 hours.

The George has since thanked the public through their Facebook page for messages of support sent after the incident.

“Thanks for all the support and messages today. We are shocked and truly disheartened to see our building vandalised especially with the anniversary of the equality vote this weekend.”

“But at times like these our community has come together in support like it always does.”

Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
