The 19-year-old, who was the only person travelling in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman and two children travelling in the second car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

However, their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The accident occurred on the R162 Navan to Kingscourt Road at 1.20pm.

The road is currently closed as forensics carry out an examination - diversions are in place.
