A 45-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car ,while a post mortem is to be carried out on the body of another man whose unconscious body was found on Thursday night.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 1.20am this morning at Newcastle, Rochfortbridge, Co Weathmeath.
The victim, a pedestrian, was fatally injured when he was struck by a car.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed this morning to facilitate a forensic examination.
Gardai at Mullingar are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem is due to be carried out on the body of a man who has died after being found unconscious.
Gardai said the 36-year-old was discovered on St Patrick's Quay in Cork city on Thursday night.
He was being treated at Cork University Hospital, where he died in the early hours of this morning.
Gardai said a post-mortem will determine what, if any, injuries the man suffered and determine the direction of the investigation.
