Mailman winging it as birds take over postbox

A postbox in Co Cavan has been closed down by An Post due to the fact that a family of birds have made their nest in it.

Local postman Paul Cox believes they are sparrows, but others suspect they could belong to the tit or wren family.

The new arrivals in the Coronea area have caused inquisitive locals to inspect their new nest.

A spokesperson for An Post said the notice was normal policy.

"We let nature take its course. It happens from time to time. Once the birds are gone, the post box resumes its duties," a spokesperson said.

It gives a whole new meaning to sending a tweet.
