Macnas signs up for Kilkenny arts festival
FAMED street theatre company Macnas will be one of the highlights when one of the country's oldest arts festival gets under way in August, writes Fergus Black.
Featuring an 18ft-high collapsible penny-farthing bicycle, the Galway-based company will stage the Irish premiere of their new show 'Chaosmas' at the Kilkenny Arts Festival which begins on August 9.
Macnas has traditionally been associated with the Galway Arts Festival but, because of funding issues, the company will not be taking part in this year's Galway events.
Macnas artistic director Noeline Kavanagh said their Kilkenny show would be on a much smaller scale and the company was hoping to put on a parade in Galway before the end of the year.
