A very lucky family collected a cheque for over €2.3 million at the National Lottery Offices today.

The lucky winners from Westmeath, who wish to remain anonymous, won the draw last Saturday, September 10, according to the Westmeath Independent.

A spokeswoman for the group said she couldn’t believe the news.

“I was buying petrol at the Topaz and decided to do a Quick Pick for that night’s Lotto draw," she said.

"I wouldn’t be a regular player, I’d play the odd time. The next evening I was online and saw the news that a Quick Pick sold in the Topaz in Athlone won the jackpot. I thought, 'Hang on, I bought a Quick Pick there!'"

The lucky winner has decided to share the winnings with her family.

“We’re buying a house so this couldn’t have happened at a better time.  We’ll not need that mortgage now,” she said.

She shared the full jackpot of over €4.6 million with another winner who bought their ticket in Dublin 2; this person has yet to come forward and claim their prize.
