Love/Hate star ‘Fran’ in hit-and-run charge
ONE of the main stars of RTE’s hugely popular crime drama Love/Hate is facing charges arising from an alleged hit-and-run.
Peter Coonan (28), who plays Fran in the gangland drama, has denied four road traffic offences.
The actor was charged with dangerous driving arising out of an alleged incident on the N11 in Foxrock on 22 May last year in which a man was injured.
Mr Coonan, who has an address in Rocwood in Blackrock in Dublin, is facing dangerous driving charges, and three hit-and-run offences, including failing to give appropriate information to gardai, failing to keep a vehicle at the scene of an accident and failing to report an injury to another man.
It is alleged that the actor’s driving was at a speed or in a manner that was dangerous to the public.
Mr Coonan came to prominence in the second series of the RTE drama with his portrayal of Fran, a volatile gangster on the Dublin gangland scene.
He has a major role in the current series as one of crime kingpin Nidge’s closest allies.
When contacted, he declined to comment.
If he is convicted of dangerous driving, he faces a mandatory disqualification from driving of two years, a fine of up to €5,000 and/or six months in jail.
The actor was not in Dun Laoghaire District Court when the case was called earlier this week but the court heard from his solicitor that a hearing date was being sought.
Judge John O’Connor adjourned the case until January.
