'Love/Hate' garda actor awaits fate
Commissioner Callinan told his members he has no problems with them joining drama societies or similar organisations.
But he said some issues had arisen during the RTE crime drama 'Love/Hate' that had to be reviewed internally. Asked for his views on the series, Mr Callinan said: "I'm no different to the million-plus viewers that looked at 'Love/Hate'.
"I have a different reason, perhaps, for looking at it, compared with others. But it's a drama, obviously a very successful drama."
Mr Callinan is awaiting a report from a superintendent, who he appointed to examine issues arising from the participation of a real-life member of the garda national drugs unit, Kieran O'Reilly, who portrayed an undercover garda in the series.
The outcome of that review will determine whether the garda should face disciplinary action. The commissioner said it would not be appropriate for him to comment on those issues until the report had been completed.
After the review is finalised, he said, a decision would then be reached on whether action should be taken or a policy paper drafted.
