THE unfamiliar sounds of a newborn baby echoed through the Mansion House as Lord Mayor of Dublin Naoise O Muiri brought his daughter home for the first time.
History was made at the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street last Thursday when Dublin's 'first citizen' became the first serving Lord Mayor in over three decades to have a child while in office.
Baby Caoilfhionn is only the fourth baby to have been born to a serving Lord Mayor, and is the first since Sinead Mitchell was born in 1976 to Jim Mitchell and Patsy Mitchell.
"We're back to the sleepless nights and changing the bottles, but it's a great feeling," Mr O Muiri told the Irish Independent.
He took some time out from the chains of office yesterday to share some quiet moments with his wife Fionnuala Keane, newborn Caoilfhionn and daughters Ailbhe and Briona.
