Look what washed up on Sandymount Strand

A TEMPORARY art installation has drawn attention from Dublin's iconic Poolbeg Chimneys on Sandymount Strand.

An art collective known as Reckless Rainbow has taken responsibility for the creation, which was installed on the famous beach yesterday morning following a short appearance at the Castlepalooza music festival in Tullamore, Co Offaly last weekend.

The work of art is based on Brigid's Cross, a Christian symbol which is believed to afford protection against darkness.

The collective has launched a crowd-funding campaign to build another work of art, called Brigid's Crossing, for display at the seven-day Burning Man festival in Nevada in the US from August 25, which features the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy.
