IT'S a scene straight out of the pages of a holiday brochure for the Bahamas or Hawaii, but this magical photograph was taken right on our doorstep.

Paddle-surfer Julian Charlton is a regular visitor to Killiney Bay in Dublin, and he is frequently joined up close and personal on his jaunts by the three resident bottlenose dolphins.

Mr Charlton, from Blackrock, was on the water last Friday for several hours and described the experience as electrifying.

"They'll swim around for a while. I just go on my way and the dolphins come up to me," Mr Charlton said.

"I can't chase them or approach them. They just do their own thing. What they do seem to do is they swim at me head-on, and then they turn just when they get to the board and they'll swim underneath."

The 43-year-old, who works in the Apollo Gallery in central Dublin, has been paddle surfing for three years.
