Locals want pool with faulty roof to re-open

Sam Griffin

A COUNTY council has ordered the closure of a swimming pool after an engineer's report found the roof was in danger of completely collapsing.

But outraged locals have called for the pool to be reopened and are planning a protest rally this weekend.

DLR Leisure Services Ltd said it was told by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to shut the pool with immediate effect.

The council said the report detailed "significant structural defects with the pool's roof".

The council said in a statement that the closure was "unavoidable".

"DLR Leisure Services is contacting the various user groups and customers who currently utilise the facility to advise them of the closure," the statement added.

Further details are to be made available on the county council's website and arrangements are being made for groups who use the pool.

A Facebook page -- Save Glenalbyn Swimming Pool -- has been set up with members insisting the pool should be reopened
