THE death of a little boy who drowned after falling into a flooded river while playing near his home was the second tragedy to hit his heartbroken family in just two years.
James Casey-Butler (7) was brought to his grandparents home in Midleton, Co Cork, yesterday where he lay in repose, with his funeral taking place today.
The little boy died just three weeks before the second anniversary of his uncle, Leon Casey. Leon died on April 18, 2011, in tragic circumstances.
Leon's parents, Michael and Eileen, last night had little James' body lying in repose at their Avoncore Place home while family, friends and neighbours attempted to comfort the little boy's distraught mother, Edel. James died on Sunday evening after losing his brave 25-hour battle for life, having fallen into the freezing Owenacurra River outside the Tiar Cluain estate, where he was playing on Saturday evening.
James will be buried today after 2pm Mass of the Angels in the Church of the Holy Rosary in Midleton.
The mourners will be led by his parents, Edel Casey and Paul Butler, and his grandparents, Michael and Eileen Casey, and Michael and Liz Butler. A special guard of honour will be provided by James's classmates.
