Limerick man arrested in Channel Tunnel drugs find
An Irish man has been charged in the UK over an alleged attempt to bring drugs through the Channel Tunnel.
Mikey Battles, 35, from Ballycasey, Limerick, was arrested on Tuesday at the entrance to the tunnel in France.
UK Border Agency officers said they searched an Irish-registered Mitsubishi Chariot and found one kilo of heroin and 10 kilos of cannabis.
The drugs, believed to have a street value of around €40,600, were concealed in the door panels of the car.
The UK officials charged the man with the attempted illegal importation into Britain of heroin and cannabis.
The accused was brought before Dover Magistrates' Court yesterday where he was bailed to re-appear at the same court on March 3.
