THE only survivor of the horrific Athy car accident which killed four friends has posted an emotional tribute on the one year anniversary of the accident.
Dayna Kearney (21) from Carlow, was in a critical condition after the VW Polo she was driving collided with a van.
Her friends Chermaine Carroll, Niamh Doyle, Gemma Nolan and Ashling Middleton were all killed instantly.
The close group of friends were returning from a day out ice skating.
On her Facebook page today, Dayna paid tribute.
“This day last year I went ice skating with 4 of my best friends which turned from a great day to a horrific and tragic night for many.
“I lost four of the greatest friends who meant so much to me.
“They were all wonderful people to be around, each in their own way. This year has been a blur and has gone by so fast. It has been the worst year of my life and also many other people's life.
“Life is not the same and never will be the same when you lose someone you've seen or spoken to everyday.
“I am trying and will continue to try live my life the way my four beautiful friends would have wanted me to, even though its hard at times.
“Today I think about all the girls families and friends as it is going to be a particularly hard day.
“I just want to thank everybody who has been there for me the past year! I do not know where I would be without the brilliant support.”
