Leisure boat has near-miss with car ferry

A SMALL leisure boat broke free from its moorings and drifted into the path of a car ferry in the Shannon Estuary.

The passenger and vehicle vessel operated by Shannon Ferries, was attempting to dock at Tarbert in Co Kerry after crossing the estuary from Killimer in Co Clare yesterday.

While the ferry was approaching the slipway, an empty 15ft cruise boat drifted into its path forcing the skipper to take evasive action.

After a time, the boat was secured and towed clear of the ferry's path and tied up again. The ferry was then able to dock without any further problems.
