HE'S a star on the pitch and yesterday he helped to bring some sunshine into the lives of sick children.

Fresh from last weekend's Heineken Cup final victory over Ulster, Leinster and Ireland star Brian O'Driscoll yesterday paid a visit to the Temple Street Children's Hospital.

Along with other star players including Rob Kearney, he delighted the patients and showed off the cup. Among those who got a chance to marvel at the trophy was six-year-old Xavier Flynn, from Bray, Co Wicklow.

Michaela Morley (6), from Co Mayo, who has been receiving treatment at the hospital since she was born, was also delighted with the visit.

She received the gift of a kidney at the end of last year and is now doing tremendously well, but still requires check-ups at the hospital.

The members of the team received a warm welcome.

They also distributed gifts as they visited the day care unit on St Gabriel's Ward and St Michael's Wards B and C.

Our picture by Matt Browne shows Sam Ennis meeting Devin Toner, Fionn Carr, Brian O'Driscoll, John Cooney and Rob Kearney; while, right, O'Driscoll and Michaela Morley are pictured by Colm Mahady.
