The second biggest health insurer is to hike its prices by 20pc from the start of March.
Laya Healthcare blamed changes to Government policy for the massive hike. The insurance provider has close to half a million customers.
The rises are double what were expected and come on top of restrictions on the tax reliefs on health insurance policies in last October’s budget which are set to add hundreds of euro for the cost of cover for families.
A rise of 20pc would send its cheapest plan, Essential Connect Family, up by close to €380 a year for a family of two adults and two children.
The move by Laya comes days after VHI Healthcare said it was pushing up its plans by an average of 3pc from March 1. Some plans will go up by 6pc.
