Last-ditch talks to avert new bus strike

Progress was made at late-night talks in a bid to avert a second 48-hour strike by bus drivers.

The robust talks continued into the early hours of this morning and senior sources said they were pleased with the progress that the discussions were making. 

Siptu and the National Bus and Rail Union were assessing a draft document circulated at intensive negotiations at the Labour Relations Commission with management from Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus.

One source said they were satisfied with the progress that has been made in relation to plans for what happens in 2019, when current contacts expire as it is feared that further routes could be put out to private  tender then.
