GARDAI have arrested two men after recovering a large quantity of stolen cigarettes following a high-speed car chase.

The arrests were made as part of Operation Fiacla, which was set up early last year to combat a nationwide spate of burglaries.

The cigarettes were stolen in a break-in from a premises in Bunclody, Co Wexford, last night.

Patrolling gardai spotted a stolen car outside Naas around 5am today and gave chase.

The car crashed a short distance away and the four occupants made off on foot.  Gardai recovered the cigarettes haul from the car and later detained two suspects.

Both were being held for questioning this afternoon at Newbridge garda station.
