Landmark day for Micheal (80)
IT was a momentous day for one of the country's most familiar voices, as RTE veteran Micheal O Muircheartaigh commentated on his first All-Ireland GAA match as an octogenarian.
The Kerryman, who turned 80 last week, was joined by his daughter Doireann at Croke Park (above) for the occasion, and was his usual excitable self as he described the semi-final for radio listeners.
Last week, he celebrated his birthday by climbing to the top of Mount Brandon in Co Kerry with 23 friends and family.
"I haven't seen Dublin play this well in a long time, but then again it's only three minutes in," O Muircheartaigh reckoned after Bernard Brogan put the blues in front with an early goal yesterday.
But as the game ended in Cork's favour, the broadcaster put down the Rebel win to the number of frees conceded by the opposition -- 28 compared with Cork's 16.
