Knock airport to soar with new routes
TOURISM in the West got a badly needed shot in the arm yesterday when Ryanair announced four new European routes out of Knock airport.
The new routes to Paris, Milan, Barcelona, and Frankfurt, are expected to increase numbers at the airport by more than 100,000, driving annual passenger numbers at Knock to 725,000 next year.
The new routes will run three times weekly and will operate between the end of March and October.
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary yesterday paid tribute to management at the airport for keeping costs under control.
Liam Scollan, chairman of Ireland West Airport at Knock, said yesterday's announcement was "a game changer for all involved in the region". The Taoiseach also welcomed the news.
