King Ratsnake slithers in . . .

SNAKES ALIVE. Just when we are set to celebrate our patron saint, who -- legend has it -- banished the slithery creatures from Ireland, comes news of a new arrival at Dublin Zoo.

A female King Ratsnake is the newest addition to the reptile house and visitors to the zoo can see it from tomorrow.

The species earned its name through its habit of eating other snakes and is found throughout China, Vietnam and Taiwan.

To celebrate the new arrival, the zoo has planned a host of St Patrick's Day festivities and entertainment, including keeper talks, face painting and a live trad band.
