The Kinahan cartel have a long association with boxing.
Daniel Kinahan, the son of crime godfather Christy Kinahan, has been acting as a manager for a number of boxers and is often seen at the MGM gym in Marbella.
British Olympic boxer Thomas Stalker is among those in the Kinahan boxing stable.
The Kinahans have become big players in the sport through the MGM gym in Spain, which is run by Birmingham-born Irish boxer Matthew Macklin.
However, even before the gym in Marbella was set up, they had used professional boxing fights in Dublin for crime summits.
Macklin, who has no involvement in crime, is the boxer the feared international crime syndicate support.
Senior members of the mob are regularly seen at Macklin's fights, often in ringside seats.
Because of yesterday's bloodbath, a major bout which was due to happen at the National Stadium in Dublin tonight was called off.
Respected boxer Jamie Kavanagh, who is the son of slain notorious gangster Gerard 'Hatchet' Kavanagh, has continued to work at the MGM gym despite his dad's murder.
