THE Fine Gael leader's comments about a 1990s knife-point mugging in Kenya could be damaging Dublin's tourism industry, it was claimed yesterday.
Enda Kenny has been criticised by Government TDs for referring to the incident during a Dail debate on his party's Civil Law (Home Defence) Bill to protect homeowners from intruders.
Fianna Fail TD John Curran claimed Mr Kenny's impression that the 1994 mugging happened in Dublin could damage the capital's reputation as a top European tourist destination.
The Dublin Mid West TD said: "Deputy Kenny's reluctance to come clean about the location and date of his mugging shows he was happy to give the false impression the crime happened here.
"This is the latest attempt by Fine Gael to damage the reputation of Dublin city and give the impression we are all living in Dodge City, USA."
