Kenny shying away from bright lights of TV studio all a ploy
Goes without saying, Enda Kenny's non-showdown with Vincent Browne on TV3 was dominating twitter discussions yesterday.
After the Fine Gael leader suggested leaving an empty chair to symbolise those who have been forced to emigrate Conor Houghton @conorjh had a suggestion.
"I am going to leave the FG box on my ballot paper blank to symbolise Enda Kenny's absence from the debate."
The man himself was not joining the conversation. After cheering on the Irish rugby team the day before ("Go O'Gara Go!"), @EndaKennyTD was saying nothing and merely posted a photo of himself "Pointing Ireland in the right direction".
But Annie West @anniewestdotcom had an explanation for the Kenny strategy.
"Of course everyone thinks Enda is afraid of debate. But that's just it: This is what he wants you to think. That's when he makes his move."
If Enda did turn up at a TV studio any time soon, he might enjoy the glitz of the election as much as @ciaramconway, Labour's candidate in Waterford: "So the make up department in RTE are amazing :)"
She also got to meet Eamon Gilmore at RTE and posted a photo of her father in Donnybrook.
Lisa McCarthy @lisaamcc was less charitable. "FG handlers must think Enda will do more party damage by being on Vincent Browne than by negative press by NOT.
"Does not inspire confidence."
Out on the doorsteps, Green Party candidate @OisinOhAlmhain shared the best line from a man in Inchicore: "Global warming didn't go away with the recession".
