TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has pledged to improve Fine Gael communications amid widespread dissatisfaction among his TDs and senators.
At a meeting of the Fine Gael parliamentary party last night, Mr Kenny heard some criticism from his TDs about how the party was communicating its message.
It comes after Fianna Fail has overtaken Fine Gael in a number of opinion polls, and Mr Kenny discussed political tactics and strategy with his TDs.
There were also numerous warnings to those present not to leak what happened at the meeting.
"There was a lot of criticism of how we are doing our business, there was a lot of blame being spread," said one TD.
It is understood the hiring of a political director to help co-ordinate strategy was also discussed.
One deputy said it seemed as if people were speaking in riddles, with TDs vaguely blaming ministers and ministers expressing dissatisfaction with TDs. But one minster said the exchanges were "very measured".
"No panic over the polls, very complimentary of Enda. Just some brain-storming about better communications."
A backbencher said there was "grumbling towards certain unnamed ministers".
Another minister said it was mostly grumbling from younger TDs, who were not used to being under pressure in politics.
