Taoiseach Enda Kenny says he has no role in anti-war demonstrator Margaretta D’Arcy being imprisoned in Limerick Prison.
President Michael D Higgins’ wife, Sabina, made a controversial prison visit to the activist in recent days.
Ms D’Arcy (79), who is a member of Aosdana, is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease and has also been diagnosed with cancer.
She was jailed last week for refusing to sign a bond to keep the peace and stay away from unauthorised zones at Shannon Airport.
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams questioned if it was appropriate for Ms D’Arcy to be held in the prison.
Mr Kenny said no politician had a role in decisions by the judiciary.
“We have no hand act or function in it,” he said.
