Kenny declines to give final Budget target figure
TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has declined to say what the final Budget target will be until the latest tax figures are published.
Although Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore has said the figure should be less than the current €3.1bn target, Mr Kenny said he was not going to speculate until Finance Minister Michael Noonan was in possession of all the detail.
“The Budget for 2014, in so as far as we can do this, will focus on opportunities for further job expansion and employment,” he said.
It came after Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams asked him to give a clear signal that he would “lift the burden of austerity” from the country’s citizens.
The Central Statistics Office and the Department of Finance are due to release the latest figures on the state of the economy and the tax take shortly.
