Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has said she may propose new laws aimed at criminalising the buying of sex.
Ms Fitzgerald today expressed her shock following a report on RTE's Sean O'Rourke which claimed asylum seekers as young as 18 are working as prostitutes.
Currently, it is illegal in Ireland to work as prostitute but there are not restrictions on the purchase of sex.
Ms Fitzgerald said she be seeking a report from integration officials in response to claims that asylum seekers living in direct provision centres are involved in prostitution.
She called on anyone with information to provide it to the relevant authorities.
