THE jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering a farmer in a dispute over a stray heifer has been informed it can now consider a 'majority' verdict.
The panel of 10-men and two women will resume deliberations today at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
Daniel-Joseph (DJ) Byrne (39), of Hammer Lane, Borness in Co Laois, has denied murdering Edward 'Eddie' Dempsey in 2007.
His younger brother, Jason Byrne (33), of the same address, who had also appeared on the same charge, walked free on Wednesday evening after the jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict.
Justice Patrick McCarthy told the jury they could now consider a verdict of 10 or more.
