Joy at Jacob's life-changing surgery
A GRANDMOTHER'S prayers were answered after a life-changing operation to enable a three-year-old boy to walk for the first time has been hailed "a complete success".
Jacob Foley Keenan, from Tallaght, Dublin, was recovering in hospital in the US yesterday, after undergoing a four-hour spinal operation that could enable him to take his first steps unaided by Christmas.
The tot was diagnosed with cerebral palsy two years ago, a condition which affected both his legs and has since prevented him from standing upright.
Yesterday, his mother Lynn and granny Marie, who are by his bedside, spoke of their joy and relief that the €50,000 operation at the St Louis Children's Hospital on Thursday had gone without a hitch.
Jacob will stay for another month in Missouri, during which time he will have a second operation and begin post-operative treatment and physiotherapy.
