A JOURNALIST being investigated for allegedly having sex with an underage girl has made an official complaint to gardai that details of the case were leaked to the press.
The sports reporter sent a solicitor's letter to Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan complaining about alleged leaks to the media.
It suggested gardai were involved in providing information to the press about aspects of the case.
It was unclear last night whether his complaint would be the subject of a formal investigation.
According to one senior garda, details were widely known in the community before they appeared in the media and it would be hard to ascertain whether press coverage came about as a result of any garda leak.
The man has been receiving medical treatment ever since the complaint against him surfaced last March.
In the weeks following an initial complaint against the journalist, another girl came forward to allege inappropriate contact.
The girls allegedly came into contact with the man through his involvement with GAA teams. They play for different clubs in Dublin.
It is expected that after he leaves hospital, he will be arrested and questioned about the complaints.
