A PRIEST who was killed in a road accident -- and his ill sister who died just hours later -- will be buried after a joint funeral
Fr Joseph McGuane (67) died after he was struck by a car while walking on the N25 Carrigtwohill to Midleton Road in Cork, at 6.45pm last Thursday.
His older sister, Maura McGuane, who had been ill for some time, passed away at Marymount Hospice in Cork city just three hours later.
Fr McGuane was a hospital chaplain based at the St Raphael Centre in Youghal, Co Cork, and devoted the past year to helping care for his sick sister.
Bishop of Cloyne, Rev William Creane, said: "I was shocked and saddened to hear of Fr McGuane's death. I extend my sympathy to his family, his friends and to the priests of the diocese. I also offer my condolences to the McGuane family on the death of Fr Joe's sister, Maura McGuane."
Joseph and Maura will be laid to rest at North Abbey Cemetery in Youghal, Co Cork, today following 11am Mass at St Mary's Church in the town.
They are survived by sister Olive and her extended family.
