THEY are used to hair-raising moments on the racetrack but this trio of well-known jockeys have decided to indulge in a little bit of their own hair-raising for 'Movember'.

Top jockeys Davy Russell, David Casey and Andrew McNamara are going to unusual lengths to raise awareness of male cancers as they are more commonly spotted clean-shaven in winner's enclosures throughout the country.

Mr Russell, who has been the brunt of weighroom jokes about his Asterix-style moustache, has also signed up to become the National Hunt Ambassador for Horse Racing Ireland.

The first choice jockey to Ryanair chief Michael O'Leary's Gigginstown House Stud already has a winner under his belt as he has won a Grade 1 race at Down Royal.

"I'm over the moon at the moment as we've had an unreal run in the last couple of weeks. There is a strong team of horses still to come out, and I'm just hoping that the bright start keeps on going," he said.
