Jazzing it up to banish blues

BOOKINGS for one of Ireland's oldest music festivals are up by more than 10pc.
The Cork Jazz Festival -- which officially opened yesterday -- aims to defy the recession.
The event, sponsored by Guinness, is worth around €6m to the greater Cork economy.
Hotel bookings, restaurant reservations and jazz ticket sales are up by an estimated 10pc.
The 2010 festival will be headlined by Herbie Hancock. Other acts include Maceo Parker, Steve Winwood, Andreas Varady and Bill Carrothers.
