LABOUR TD Jan O'Sullivan is to be appointed as a new Super Junior Minister at Cabinet.
Ministers decided at a meeting this morning to promote the Minister of State to the position previously occupied by Labour's Willie Penrose, who resigned from the parliamentary party last month.
Ms O'Sullivan is likely to take up Mr Penrose's housing portfolio and as Super Junior Minister will be able to sit at the Cabinet table, but will get no vote on decisions.
Mr Penrose, Longford-Westmeath TD, quit in November after the Cabinet voted to close Columb Barracks in Mullingar despite his appeals to save the military base.
