Jackpot city scoops €30m in 16 weeks
IRELAND'S second city is proving a real winner for the Lotto jackpot.
Cork has now provided five major National Lottery jackpot winners in less than four months -- with the latest winner scooping €3.25m.
The winning ticket was sold at the Eason outlet in the Mahon Point Shopping Centre -- although Ireland's newest millionaire has not yet come forward to claim their prize.
This week's jackpot brings to a remarkable €30m the Lotto winnings that punters in Cork city and county have enjoyed, courtesy of five major wins this summer.
The latest millionaire purchased a €16 multi-game Quick Pick ticket in the store on July 21 last. This was the very same day that the €5.2m jackpot was won by a lucky couple who purchased their ticket in Ryan's SuperValu in Togher, less than two miles away. Four days later, a €2m jackpot was won, courtesy of a ticket purchased in SuperValu in Merchant's Quay Shopping Centre in Cork city centre . The streak of luck began on June 30 when a lucky player won €2m after buying a ticket in McCarthy's Newsagents on North Main Street.
That followed the success of Australian-born nurse Shane O'Neill, who won €6m with a ticket purchased with his wife in the Wilton Shopping Centre for the draw on June 9.
Last spring, another Cork Lotto player made history when he became the first online jackpot winner -- scooping €5.5m.
However, there is still no clue as to the identity of Cork's latest Lotto millionaire. Eason manager Gillian O'Connell pointed out that the shop had also sold a €10,000 winning ticket in the 'All Or Nothing' game recently.
A staff member also won a considerable amount on the 'Monday Millions' game -- adding further credence to the fact the store is a lucky shop.
