Two of Ireland’s greatest writers died 50 years ago this year - Sean O’Casey and Brendan Behan. Both were very different men but both were masters at storytelling and reflecting the lives and struggles of ordinary people.

In a 24-page supplement with this Saturday's Irish Independent, we explore their lives and works and take a wider look at the writers who feature in the new Leaving Certificate syllabus for 2015 and 2016, including O’Casey, Maeve Binchy, WB Yeats and Dermot Bolger.

We get contributions from acclaimed authors Selina Guinness, Oisin McGann and Dermot Bolger himself on the kinds of books our young people are reading and what they can learn from them.
