Up to 30,000 runners braved the elements for the GOAL Mile yesterday in a bid to raise thousands of euro for the aid agency.

The event was staged by more than 140 local communities across Ireland, including Dublin's Phoenix Park.

Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan also announced that Ireland was pledging €11.75m in humanitarian assistance to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, which helps tackle the unprecedented humanitarian crisis worldwide.

The Government has donated €100m to the fund so far this year.
