It's game on for composer Mick

AN IRISH composer beat off international competition to create the soundtrack for a big-budget computer game.
Mick Kiely spent 20 years playing in Dublin cover bands, but his music is now heard on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, courtesy of new game 'Bodycount'.
Two years in development, initially UK games company Codemasters had planned to use three different composers to score their new hi-tech console game.
But having heard recordings made by the Gorey-based musician, the company hired him to do the full soundtrack for the game, which features a secret agent engaged in global conflicts.
The six-figure commission saw the Dalkey man travel to Bulgaria to work with a 60-piece orchestra and to Switzerland to record ethnic instruments, but the majority of the music was done in his home studio in Co Wexford.
"It was a mammoth task, but hugely rewarding. I've played every venue in Ireland in bands like 'The Glam Tarts', 'Abbaesque' and '20th Century Gold'. All I really wanted to do was keep making music, and here I am coming out of PlayStation 3 and Xboxes," Mr Kiely told the Irish Independent.
"The global games industry is now bigger than Hollywood, but I'd like to work in both areas," he said.
