WEEKS of preparation, special diets, expensive shampoos, and hours in front of the mirror before the big day.
Forget the St Patrick's Day parade; the biggest show in town yesterday was the Irish Kennel Club's Celtic Winners' Show.
Hundreds of pet lovers and their dogs competed at the event at the National Show Centre, Cloghran, North Co Dublin, yesterday, where judging kicked off at 8.30am.
Eighteen rings played host to dogs of every shape, size and name, with prizes available in the Junior Stakes, Puppy Stakes and in the Veteran Stakes.
Maureen Carroll from Kilnamanagh, Dublin, brought her Norwegian Keeshond, Carter, which takes four hours to groom.
But Tina Dillon from Glasnevin, Dublin, was not to be outdone with her one-year-old dog, Tara, wearing a "Wonder Woman" outfit.
