It's art for heart's sake at auction

MODEL Rebecca Hughes poses in front of a painting by artist Steven Mannion ahead of a charity auction to raise funds for the same-sex-marriage lobby group Marriage Equality.

Mr Mannion, who married Colin Farrell's brother, Eamon, joins other leading Irish artists, including Anne Madden, Pauline Bewick and Jim Fitzpatrick, in supporting same-sex marriage here.

The auction of paintings, sculpture and ceramics, entitled 'Art for Marriage Equality', takes place next Saturday at Adams Auctioneers in Dublin.

Mr Mannion said he believes that he and Eamon Farrell shouldn't have had to travel to Canada to tie the knot in December 2009.

"I didn't believe that civil partnership was an option -- Eamon asked me to marry him, he didn't ask me to civil partner him," he said.

The artwork will go on display at the auctioneers ahead of the auction.
