IT experts now track missing persons

Tom Brady Security Editor

Computer experts are now being used regularly by gardai in their efforts to track down missing persons.

Specially trained staff from the garda analysis service are deployed routinely to examine data relating to missing persons to establish if there could be links between cases.

The strength of the missing persons bureau has also been boosted with two new staff on foot of a recommendation from the Garda Inspectorate.

In response to other suggestions, liaison sergeants have been appointed to monitor reports of children missing from care -- half of all such reports.

Cross-border meetings with the PSNI, meanwhile, are being held on a regular basis.
