It all went downhill from here
Some 6,000 balls were rolled down a steep hill yesterday in a unique annual fundraising drive.
The fifth 'Barrack Hill Ball Roll' saw the coloured and numbered balls -- each of which were sponsored for €2 -- thrown down the Cobh, Co Cork, street in a bid to raise money for charity.
The first ball to reach the end of the hill secured the person who sponsored it a cheque for €500.
The lottery was one of a series of family events taking place in Cobh yesterday.
These included a crab-fishing competition and an uphill ball challenge in which participants had to push exercise balls up a slope.
Hendrick Verwey, one of the organisers of the events, said the ball roll had raised about €11,000 for the Brainwave charity and the oncology unit at South Infirmary Hospital in Cork.
