AN Irishman is fighting for his life after being found unconscious outside an Australian supermarket. Timothy McCarthy, (41) from Killarney, Co Kerry is believed to have been knocked unconscious after receiving a single blow to the head. The incident took place at around 5.30am local time on Sunday morning in the Australian capital of Canberra.
Mr McCarthy, who is living in Australia, was rushed to Canberra Hospital by ambulance where he underwent emergency surgery for a cerebral haemorrhage. He remained in a critical condition there last night, and police described his condition as "unresponsive". CCTV footage taken from the convenience store showed he had been alone when he was hit in the head. The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the Irish embassy in Canberra has been offering assistance to the family.
IN relation to an article which appeared in the Irish Independent on Saturday, July 23, the Irish Red Cross would like to clarify that all donations are allocated to the appeal designated by the donor. General donations are allocated to the ongoing work of the Irish Red Cross organisation.
