AN Irishman is fighting for his life after he was stabbed with a carving kinfe in Australia.
The 21-year-old victim was in a critical condition in a hospital in Perth today with doctors battling to save his life.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the young man’s family.
“This man was in a fracas yesterday and is in a serious condition. We are doing all we can to assist in his family,” a department spokesman told the Evening Herald.
It’s understood that the victim was stabbed in the neck during a row at a property in the Scarborough area of the city yesterday morning.
Perth police received reports of a group of up to four men fighting at around 2:30pm yesterday.
On arriving at the scene, emergency services treated the Irish man for serious injuries to the neck.
It’s understood that he was kicked and punched before being stabbed with a sharp object.
Australia media today reported that the victim was stabbed wuth a large carving knife. Another man was smashed over the head with a bottle during the altercation.
A 32-year-old man was charged with intent to do grievous bodily harm earlier today. He is due to appear in court today.
Police were today continuing to question witnesses to the incident and appealed for information.
