Irish Times literary editor dies unexpectedly
THE Literary Editor of the Irish Timed, Caroline Walsh, has died unexpectedly at the age of 59.
Ms.Walsh joined The Irish Times in the mid-‘70s and has been Literary Editor since 1999.
She also held a number of other senior editorial roles in the newspaper, including editing the Our Times page, which investigated issues affecting women’s rights and place in society.
The daughter of writer Mary Lavin, she was born in 1952 and she graduated from UCD with a Master's in Modern English and American literature in 1975.
Ms Walsh subsequently joined The Irish Times Newsroom.
She was married to the teacher and novelist James Ryan. They have two grown-up children, a son and a daughter.
