Irish teacher dies in Thailand after motorbike accident

AN Irish teacher who had been working in Thailand died after he was injured in a motorbike accident on the paradise island of Phuket.

Denis Bates (30) from Dublin had been teaching at the Baan Maireab School in Phuket.

At around 11pm on Friday, he was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries sustained in the crash.

Mr Bates had been in a coma after the accident, but died this afternoon as a result of his injuries at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

The Department of Foreign Affairs last night confirmed that they are "aware of the case" and are "providing consular assistance."
