Irish pilot among five killed in plane crash in Hawaii
An Irishman has died in a plane crash in Hawaii.
The man was among five people on board who were all killed in the crash on Monday.
It is understood that the man was a pilot on a skydiving plane, a single-engine Cessna 182H, and the crash occurred on the island of Kauai at around 9.30am local time.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the family.
Four of them were pronounced dead at the scene, and one man was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of the crash is as yet unknown. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident.
The plane was a single-engine Cessna 182H, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. The plane caught fire after crashing, he said.
